| Overview | Ron Cardwell focuses his practice on regulatory, litigation, and transactional matters in the fields of environmental law, administrative law, and real estate. His experience gained as Assistant Group Counsel for a Fortune 500 manufacturer enables him to provide counseling on a broad range of environmental statutes and regulations, particularly those controlling solid and hazardous wastes and hazardous substances and those impacting real estate and business transactions.
Ron has been involved extensively in environmental and toxic tort litigation at trial and appellate levels in federal and state courts. He has considerable experience as counsel for potentially responsible parties at CERCLA sites in numerous U.S. EPA Regions and regularly represents clients in complex CERCLA cost recovery actions.
More recently, Ron’s diverse environmental practice has led him to counsel clients in the sale, purchase, and redevelopment of contaminated real estate. His work has necessitated his negotiating asset sale and purchase agreements, stock purchase agreements, voluntary cleanup contracts, access agreements, easements, leases, and other transaction documents. |

- Coordinated the purchase of a former textile plant for restoration and return to beneficial use in the community
- Hands on resolution of environmental issues related to asset sale and purchase agreements, stock purchase agreements, voluntary cleanup contracts, access agreements, easements, leases, and other transaction documents
- Facilitated the redevelopment of contaminated properties on behalf of corporations, partnerships, LLC's, and municipalities
- Organized phased environmental assessments of properties awaiting restoration and revitalization under Brownfields and voluntary cleanup programs
- Performed focused due diligence on permitting, capabilities, and compliance history of waste disposal facilities in the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast
- As a part of a team, negotiated the dismissal of a $6.6 Million cost recovery claim by the US EPA
- Settled a multi-million dollar cost recovery claim by private company in Federal Court
- Successfully argued environmental issues before the South Carolina Appellate Courts
- Earned a jury verdict for specialty chemical company defendant in property damage litigation in Federal Court
- Represented clients at permit appeals in the Administrative Law Court in South Carolina
