Title Agencies  

Firm Title, Inc. and Counsellor Title Insurance Agency, Inc. are wholly owned subsidiaries of McNair providing the state-wide title insurance needs of the Firm and its Clients through many major title insurance companies. 

Through these two agencies our services include issuing title insurance commitments and policies for the transaction attorneys of McNair, and coordinating title exams throughout the state.  We are licensed title insurance agents for many major title insurance companies, and provide exams, commitments, closings and policies in South Carolina for those companies.  Our agents are members of the American Land Title Association, Palmetto Land Title Association, and Mortgage Bankers Association of Greater Columbia.

Legislative Monitoring

The Legislative Monitoring Service of the Governmental Affairs Division of our Firm provides reports and/or tracking services on major legislative issues, as well as client-specific issues. There are many legislative initiatives and subsequent actions that need constant, comprehensive and professional attention when the General Assembly of our state is in session, as well as during its recesses. The level of monitoring offered can be customized to meet the needs of the individual or corporate client and can include many different service and/or delivery options. The following are available and all services are available as a package or individually:

  • Weekly, detailed agenda of all legislative meetings – published and distributed on Mondays and revised and updated daily
  • Weekly report of legislative highlights and activity – published on Thursday afternoon during the legislative session and periodically during the legislative interim
  • Access to a private and password website, which includes current information on bills which affect the client
  • An individualized “end of the session” status report of legislation;
  • Daily reports of Senate and House activity during legislative session; and
  • News articles of interest

Major issues that are regularly monitored include agriculture, alcohol, automotive, corporate, banking, economic development, eminent domain, energy, environmental, fuel, health care, insurance, internet, manufacturing, nuclear waste disposal, pharmaceutical, public utilities, hazardous waste, S.C. State Ports Authority, taxation, telecommunications, transportation and workers’ compensation.
